Maybe productivity depends on energy, mostly oil. Conventional oil peaked in 2006, unconventional in 2015.

If you are thinking through the challenges of better and more sustainable economic management with shared prosperity, this knotty problem of evaluating productivity in service and intangible products may be the most important currently UNSOLVED problem. It shows up now as a panel at every economics conference. And, there is no consensus.
